Visa has become an official LALIGA partner across the Middle East and North Africa, adding a regional football property to its payments and fan engagement strategy.

brief

Visa and LALIGA have agreed a partnership covering the Middle East and North Africa, giving the payments company a regional role with Spanish professional football. The agreement centres on joint marketing, digital content and fan initiatives intended to connect supporters with the competition throughout the season.Raúl Ostalé Bruixola, LALIGA’s commercial and marketing director in the region, said: “We are delighted to welcome Visa as LALIGA’s new Official Payment Partner in the MENA region.”Visa and LALIGA have described plans for fan experiences and easier access to football-related moments through digital payments. They have not specified which payment products will be used, whether any services will be integrated into ticketing or merchandise sales, or when the first activations will launch. The distinction matters commercially: the announcement establishes a regional sponsorship and a programme of planned activity, but gives no basis yet for estimating transaction volume or revenue from the partnership. Its financial terms and duration were not disclosed.Visa’s regional marketing chief Tarek Abdalla has linked the agreement to the company’s wider use of football partnerships. He said: “From the FIFA World Cup to the Asian Football Confederation and more, Visa continues to show up where the world's passion for football runs deepest.”The MENA remit gives Visa an association with LALIGA across several markets without the announcement identifying separate campaigns for individual countries. The partners have said they will work on integrated marketing and digital content, alongside initiatives focused on supporters. That regional approach gives LALIGA a payments partner for activity beyond Spain and gives Visa football content around which to engage consumers. The companies have presented the arrangement as a way to bring fans closer to the competition, rather than announcing a new broadcast, club or competition-wide payment contract.LALIGA operates Spain’s top two professional divisions and has an international commercial presence. A regional agreement allows it to develop sponsorship activity for MENA audiences while retaining a connection to the same league and clubs followed by supporters worldwide. The partnership also gives Visa room to connect its payment services with future fan experiences. The companies have yet to say whether those experiences will include ticket offers, events, cardholder benefits or other purchase opportunities, so the practical scope will become clearer as campaigns are announced.
