Singapore centralises VAR with Hawk-Eye in league-wide technology upgrade
The Football Association of Singapore has signed a multi-year partnership with Hawk-Eye Innovations to centralise VAR across the Singapore Premier League, investing in league-wide officiating infrastructure and fan-facing technology as part of a broader push to raise professional standards.
The Football Association of Singapore has appointed Hawk-Eye Innovations to deliver centralised Video Assistant Referee services across the Singapore Premier League under a new multi-year agreement.The Sony-owned technology company will provide VAR infrastructure, VARdict decision graphics and dedicated goal-line cameras, with the system covering all four SPL venues. Financial terms were not disclosed.Hawk-Eye global commercial director for football Peter Irwin said: “Partnering with the Football Association of Singapore marks an exciting step in expanding top-tier officiating technology across Southeast Asia.“By integrating our VAR infrastructure, VARdict solution, and Goal Line Cameras into a single centralised workflow, we are giving Singaporean match officials the exact tools used at the highest levels of global football.”The technology was first deployed at the 2026-27 Community Shield and will operate throughout the SPL season, with Sony Singapore enabling the collaboration.Each venue will have a Referee Review Area and monitor connected to a central VAR Replay Center, where IFAB-approved operators and Hawk-Eye technical specialists will manage the system.That centralised structure gives the FAS a common technology platform across its elite domestic competition rather than requiring separate VAR operations at individual stadiums.FAS general secretary Badri Ghent said: “This partnership with Hawk-Eye marks a significant step forward for Singapore football, building on the strong debut we saw at the Community Shield.”“Extending centralised VAR technology across all SPL venues reflects our broader commitment to elevating officiating standards to match the pace of the modern game, reinforcing accuracy, fairness and integrity at every level of competition.”Hawk-Eye’s VARdict product will also distribute information about reviews and decisions simultaneously to stadium screens, television broadcasts and digital platforms.The fan-facing element gives the investment a broader media value, providing broadcasters and spectators with the same real-time decision information and potentially improving clarity around VAR interventions.Two dedicated goal-line cameras will also be installed at every venue, providing high-frame-rate footage for incidents around the penalty area and goal line.Ghent said: “VARdict’s real-time transparency also gives fans, in the stadium and at home, a clearer picture of key decisions as they happen, a step towards the calibre of experience we want Singapore football to be known for.”The agreement forms part of a wider upgrade of the SPL’s commercial and professional infrastructure, with the league also introducing a record S$1m prize pool for the 2026-27 season.The FAS is positioning the Hawk-Eye system as a long-term technology foundation, giving Singapore a centralised officiating operation that can support improved match delivery, broadcast presentation and competition standards across the domestic game.
