QSI expands European football network with full Eupen takeover
Qatar Sports Investments has completed the full acquisition of Belgian second-tier club KAS Eupen, expanding its European football portfolio and strengthening a multi-club structure built around Paris Saint-Germain and a minority investment in Braga.
Qatar Sports Investments has completed the acquisition of KAS Eupen, giving the owner of Paris Saint-Germain full control of the Belgian club and expanding its European multi-club footprint.QSI had already taken over Eupen’s sporting operations in December 2025, with the latest transaction formalising ownership after a relationship between the Belgian club and Qatari football interests dating back to 2012.QSI said: “This formalises QSI’s full ownership of the club, following its takeover of KAS Eupen’s sporting operations in December 2025.“Both parties have been working closely together to build a strong foundation for the club’s long-term sporting and commercial development.”Eupen become QSI’s third major European football investment alongside PSG, where the group acquired a majority stake in 2011, and Portuguese club Braga, in which it has held a minority position since 2022.The Belgian club have long provided a development route for younger players through their relationship with Qatar’s Aspire Academy, which used Eupen as a platform for emerging talent seeking senior European experience. That role could now become more closely integrated into QSI’s wider player-development strategy.Eupen are competing in Belgium’s second tier after being relegated from the Jupiler Pro League in 2024 following eight consecutive seasons in the top flight.Returning to Belgium’s highest division is expected to be a central sporting objective, while QSI has also highlighted the club’s longer-term commercial development. The structure gives QSI a controlled club in a European market known for player development and trading, potentially creating additional pathways for talent connected to PSG and the wider group.QSI said it would continue working with Eupen’s management, players, staff, supporters and local partners to support sustainable long-term growth. The acquisition also further develops QSI’s multi-club strategy at a time when football investors are increasingly using networks of teams to support recruitment, player progression, scouting and asset development across different leagues.QSI has explored further opportunities in European football, including interest in acquiring Málaga, although that process has not resulted in a transaction.Eupen now provide the group with its first wholly controlled European club outside PSG and a platform that can combine player development with an attempt to rebuild the club towards top-flight Belgian football.
