Premier League stays with Stan until 2034 after subscription surge
Nine has extended its exclusive Australian Premier League rights until the end of the 2033-34 season, locking one of Stan Sport’s biggest subscription drivers into the platform for another six years and strengthening the group’s long-term live sports strategy.
Nine Entertainment has extended its exclusive Australian rights to the Premier League until the end of the 2033-34 season, securing another six seasons of one of Stan Sport’s most important subscription assets. The new agreement was reached with two seasons still remaining on the existing deal and will continue to give Stan Sport every Premier League match live and exclusive in Australia. Financial terms were not disclosed.Nine Entertainment chief executive Matt Stanton said: “Bringing the Premier League to Stan has been a genuine game-changer for our business, and we are very pleased to be extending the partnership for a further six years.“As the sole rights holder in Australia, Nine is uniquely placed to activate our assets across streaming and broadcast, publishing and outdoor to promote awareness of Premier League, deepen fan engagement, and tell the game’s stories across the entirety of the season.”The commercial rationale is clear for Nine, with the company identifying the Premier League as one of the biggest subscription drivers in Stan Sport’s history.Nine managing director of streaming and broadcast Amanda Laing said the rights were also an important contributor to the company’s financial performance during FY26.Laing said: “The Premier League rights have been one of the largest drivers of subscriptions in Stan Sport history and were a key contributor to our strong financial results in FY26.”The extension gives Nine unusually long-term certainty around premium football content, allowing it to build subscriber acquisition, retention and advertising strategies around the competition until 2034.Premier League chief media officer Paul Molnar said: “Stan has demonstrated a strong commitment to delivering high-quality coverage and bringing the Premier League closer to fans, supported by the reach and strength of the wider Nine network.”“Australia is important to the Premier League, with a large and passionate fanbase, and we look forward to working closely with Stan to build on this strong start and further grow engagement with the League in the years ahead.”The agreement further consolidates Stan Sport’s position in football after Nine acquired selected Optus Sport assets in 2025, including existing Premier League rights and subscriber relationships.Stan Sport’s football portfolio also includes the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, Women’s Super League, FA Cup, NWSL and J.League.That breadth gives Nine the ability to package multiple major competitions within one subscription proposition while using its television, streaming, publishing and outdoor assets to promote the content.Securing the Premier League until 2034 therefore removes a major future rights risk for Stan Sport and gives Nine a long runway to monetise a property it already regards as central to subscriber growth.
