Manchester City Women build standalone identity to support next growth phase

Manchester City Women have launched a new standalone brand platform designed to sharpen the team’s identity, support audience growth and create new commercial opportunities across matchday, digital and merchandise channels.

brief

Manchester City Women have launched a new brand platform ahead of the 2026-27 season as the club looks to create a more distinctive identity and strengthen engagement with existing and new supporters.Developed with sports branding specialist Nomad Studio, the platform will be used across communications, matchday environments and fan-facing experiences while maintaining the team’s connection to the wider Manchester City brand. The club said: “The platform will provide greater consistency across the team’s communications and experiences, helping existing supporters and new audiences engage with Manchester City Women in a more meaningful way.”The commercial significance of the project lies in giving the women’s team a clearer platform around which Manchester City can build dedicated products, experiences and partnerships without separating it from the wider club identity. The Manchester City crest and sky blue remain central, while a new MCW monogram has been introduced for lifestyle, cultural and fan-facing applications.A secondary colour palette featuring green, pink, purple, electric blue and yellow will be rolled out across digital and social channels, matchday communications and the Joie Stadium. The identity will also underpin a new Manchester City Women merchandise range scheduled to launch in the coming months, creating an additional consumer proposition built specifically around the women’s team. The platform is centred on the phrase “It Takes a City”, which Manchester City Women will use to connect players, staff, supporters and communities under a more unified brand proposition.Fan consultation formed part of the development process, with the club seeking to ensure the new identity reflected the existing supporter base while also appealing to newer audiences entering women’s football. The launch follows a season in which Manchester City Women won the Women’s Super League and FA Cup double for the first time and equalled the club’s highest points total. The team will also return to the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2026-27, providing an expanded international platform for the new identity and associated commercial activity.Manchester City Women have previously used infrastructure and commercial initiatives to differentiate their operation, including becoming the first WSL club to move away from white shorts and the first women’s team to secure naming rights for their stadium. The new identity will be introduced throughout the 2026-27 season, with further campaign activity and merchandise launches set to follow.
