Jersey Mike’s uses EFL Trophy deal to launch UK expansion
Jersey Mike’s has taken a five-year title sponsorship of the EFL Trophy as the US sandwich chain prepares to open its first UK restaurants.
Jersey Mike’s has become title sponsor of the EFL Trophy in a five-year deal running until the end of the 2030–31 season. The competition has been renamed the Jersey Mike’s Trophy with immediate effect, giving the American sandwich chain a national football platform as it enters the UK market.EFL chief executive Trevor Birch said: “The Jersey Mike’s Trophy has an important place in the football calendar. It gives players valuable competitive minutes, provides meaningful financial support for clubs and offers supporters in League One and League Two the chance to see their team compete at Wembley and win silverware.”The competition brings together League One and League Two clubs and invited Premier League under-21 sides. Its spread across towns and cities in England and Wales gives Jersey Mike’s a way to build recognition beyond the locations of its first restaurants.The company plans to open its first UK branch in central London this autumn, with further London openings planned ahead of wider expansion. Its branding will appear during this season’s group stage, putting the sponsorship into effect before the restaurant launch.Jersey Mike’s founder Peter Cancro said: “We are incredibly proud to be marking Jersey Mike’s first venture into the United Kingdom with this exciting partnership with the EFL.”The deal also offers the EFL an opportunity to raise its profile in the United States through a brand with thousands of North American restaurants. Financial terms of the sponsorship were not disclosed.More than 270,000 supporters attended Trophy matches last season, when Luton Town won the final at Wembley. This season’s final is scheduled for April 11, 2027.
