The Indian Super League has begun its 2026/27 season with a new title sponsor and a distribution strategy combining free streaming, subscription coverage and television broadcasts, as participating clubs take greater control of the competition’s commercial operations.JSW MG Motor India has secured naming rights for the season, restoring a title sponsor after three seasons, while YouTube will stream all 163 matches free of charge in India and internationally.ISL chief executive Karan Yadav said: “We are delighted to welcome MG as the Title Sponsor of the Indian Super League at an important moment in the league’s journey. The return of a title sponsor after three seasons is a significant milestone and a strong reflection of the belief and opportunity around Indian football.“As a club-led league, we are entering a new chapter with a clear ambition to build a stronger, more commercially sustainable and fan-focused ISL. MG shares our ambition to connect with a new generation of India, and together we look forward to making this partnership bigger than a brand association and using it to create greater engagement and experiences for football fans across the country.”The competition, now branded the MG Indian Super League, opened on October 10 following a period of uncertainty over its commercial framework and negotiations between the All India Football Federation and Football Sports Development Limited.Under the new model, the 13 participating clubs hold commercial rights, administrative control and oversight of key operational matters, placing them at the centre of decisions about the league’s business development.Sony Sports Network will televise more than 80 matches in India, while SonyLIV will carry the entire season through its subscription service, providing additional viewing options alongside YouTube’s free coverage. The YouTube partnership also encompasses highlights, Shorts, interviews, analysis and behind-the-scenes material, giving the league a platform for maintaining audience engagement between fixtures.Yadav commented: “We want the ISL to be the most accessible league in the country, and that means being present across the platforms where fans are choosing to watch and follow football.”MG’s involvement builds on its existing football activity, including its role as Liverpool’s official global car partner, a multi-year relationship with Arsenal and support for the Patan Girls grassroots team in Gujarat.JSW MG Motor India chief commercial officer Vinay Raina added: “At JSW MG Motor India, we have always believed in the ability of sport to bring people together, inspire young minds and create a positive impact in communities. Football has been an important part of MG’s story in India, from our association with Liverpool FC to supporting the next generation of football talent through initiatives such as our work with the Patan Girls.“Our partnership with the Indian Super League is a natural progression of that journey, allowing us to take our engagement with football to a much larger national platform. We look forward to creating exciting and memorable experiences for fans and using the power of football to build a deeper connection between MG and a new generation of India.”The season restores a full home-and-away programme comprising 156 league fixtures and seven playoff matches, with the opening phase running through January 17, 2027.The combined sponsorship and distribution arrangements establish the first commercial platform for the club-led structure, pairing a national automotive partner with broader access to the competition across digital and broadcast channels.
