brief

Gasol16 Ventures is leading a proposed €55m investment in Liga F and its clubs, targeting the commercial development and international expansion of Spain’s professional women’s football league. The proposal will be put to the 16 clubs at an extraordinary general assembly on June 29. Liga F said it would represent the largest private investment received by a women’s football league if approved.Liga F said: “Gasol16 Ventures, Pau Gasol’s investment vehicle, is leading alongside other investors a €55m investment proposal in Liga F and its clubs to professionalise its commercial model and accelerate its internationalisation.”The league said the plan is intended to strengthen the competition’s commercial operations, improve its international positioning and establish a sustainable long-term model for Liga F and its members.Detailed terms have not been disclosed, including the investment period, proposed return, governance rights and the allocation of funds between the league and its clubs. The commercial rights structure will be a central consideration ahead of the vote. LaLiga has served as Liga F’s exclusive commercial agent since 2022 under a five-year agreement covering sponsorship and other marketing assets, but not audiovisual rights. That arrangement included a minimum commercial revenue guarantee of €42m across the five-year term. The Gasol16 proposal could therefore require a transition plan or revised rights structure while the existing agreement remains active.Gasol16 Ventures focuses on sport, health and wellbeing investments. The firm said it would contribute its commercial and institutional network alongside the experience Gasol developed during his NBA and Spain basketball career.Gasol already has exposure to women’s sport through investments in the WNBA and Bay FC, the National Women’s Soccer League club based in the San Francisco Bay Area.Liga F’s commercial position has strengthened through its title sponsorship agreement with energy group Moeve, while the competition is also seeking to reduce its reliance on public support and develop more durable central revenues.Private capital could provide greater resources for league-wide sales, marketing and international distribution, although clubs will need clarity on how value is shared and which commercial rights investors would control.Approval on June 29 would allow Liga F and Gasol16 Ventures to move towards final agreements covering governance, rights management and the deployment of the proposed €55m.
