Dortmund link Panasonic partnership to infrastructure upgrades
Borussia Dortmund have agreed a five-season partnership with Panasonic Heating & Cooling Solutions, combining commercial support with planned projects to modernise the club’s infrastructure until 2031.
Borussia Dortmund have appointed Panasonic Heating & Cooling Solutions as an official partner until 2031, with the five-season agreement intended to support infrastructure improvements through energy-efficient heating, air conditioning and cooling technology. The partnership, brokered by SPORTFIVE, includes plans for pilot projects at Dortmund facilities where Panasonic’s heat pumps, air conditioning and cooling systems could be deployed.Panasonic regional director José Manuel Alves said: “Borussia Dortmund is far more than just a football club. BVB stands for emotion, solidarity and a unique bond between the team and the fans.”Alves, whose remit covers Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK and Ireland, identified support for Dortmund’s sustainability and decarbonisation objectives as a central purpose of the relationship. The agreement connects Panasonic’s commercial association with the club to potential applications of its technology, giving the company an opportunity to demonstrate its products within football infrastructure.Dortmund regard the relationship as part of their strategic ambitions and the continuing development of their facilities, with the planned pilots providing a route to assess how the systems could support those objectives. The combination of official partner status and technical expertise gives the arrangement both a marketing role and an operational purpose, linking Panasonic’s visibility in football with the proposed use of its building systems.Dortmund director of internationalisation and commercial partnerships Benedikt Scholz added: “Together, we want to show that football can have an impact far beyond the pitch. That is precisely where the strength of this partnership lies.”Scholz identified alignment between the organisations’ ambitions as a reason for the agreement, with Panasonic expected to contribute technology to support the club’s infrastructure development. The planned work covers heating, cooling and air conditioning across club facilities, placing building performance at the centre of the collaboration rather than limiting it to a promotional association. The five-season term establishes a longer partnership period for the proposed projects, although the announcement describes them as planned pilots rather than completed installations or a confirmed replacement programme. Both organisations also intend to raise the profile of the technologies through the relationship, connecting the potential facility improvements with communication about efficient sports infrastructure. The partnership will run until 2031, with pilot projects at Dortmund locations forming the next practical element of the collaboration as the club and Panasonic develop the infrastructure programme.
