DAZN locks up English football in Portugal until 2031

DAZN has renewed its exclusive Premier League rights in Portugal until the end of the 2030-31 season, extending its long-term relationship with the competition while adding the FA Cup to its portfolio.The new agreement ensures that all 380 Premier League matches per season will remain available exclusively through DAZN in Portugal beyond the expiry of its existing contract in 2028.From the 2028-29 season, the platform will also hold full and exclusive rights to the FA Cup until 2031, giving subscribers access to more than 500 matches from English football each season across the two competitions.Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.The extension strengthens one of the central pillars of DAZN’s Portuguese football proposition, with the Premier League sitting alongside a substantial portfolio of European club rights and domestic competitions.DAZN Portugal managing director João Diogo Ferreira has previously identified premium football as central to the company’s growth strategy in the market, with the platform continuing to invest in rights capable of driving subscriptions and reducing churn.The company has also secured more than 500 UEFA men’s club competition matches per season in Portugal for the 2027-31 cycle, including more than 80% of the Champions League and exclusive coverage of the Europa League and Conference League.That combination will give DAZN significant control over Portuguese access to both English domestic football and UEFA competition during the next commercial cycle.The FA Cup acquisition also broadens the value of the Premier League agreement by extending DAZN’s English football coverage beyond the league calendar and creating additional inventory for advertising, sponsorship and editorial programming.DAZN first began carrying the Premier League in Portugal during the 2022-23 season and the new contract will take that relationship to nine consecutive campaigns.The rights form part of a wider Iberian renewal, with DAZN also extending its exclusive Premier League agreement in Spain until 2031 as the streaming group continues to secure long-term access to major football properties across its core European markets.
