DAZN adds African football rights across German-speaking markets
DAZN has acquired rights to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026–27 CAF Champions League in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, expanding its football schedule across international and club competitions.
DAZN will show the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026–27 CAF Champions League in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The package gives the streaming platform a major international tournament for the European summer and a season-long African club competition.The agreement also covers Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. DAZN plans to show those matches live and free on its platform, giving viewers access to the competition before the finals begin.The 2027 tournament is scheduled to run from June 19 to July 17 across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. DAZN says it will show all 52 matches in its three German-speaking markets.The qualifying campaign gives the platform a longer period in which to build an audience around the tournament. Its first group-stage fixtures are scheduled to begin on September 24, 2026, with further rounds taking place during the November and March international windows.The CAF Champions League adds regular club football to the package. Its 2026–27 group stage is scheduled to begin on November 21, with the final expected in May 2027.Together, the competitions give DAZN African football coverage across much of the season, followed by the Africa Cup of Nations during the European club off-season. That spread allows the platform to promote the national team tournament to viewers who have already encountered its qualifying matches and club coverage.The rights also broaden DAZN’s international football portfolio in a region where it already carries domestic leagues and European competitions. The African package gives it programming outside the main European club calendar while adding another continental club tournament during the regular season.The deal changes how the Africa Cup of Nations reaches viewers in the three markets. Earlier editions were carried by Sportdigital and were also available on DAZN through a distribution arrangement; DAZN will now present the 2027 tournament as part of its own rights package.CAF’s next qualifying fixtures will provide the first immediate use of the agreement. The club competition will then extend DAZN’s African football coverage towards the 2027 finals.
