Coventry City use promotion to power 10-year arena growth plan

Coventry City are using their Premier League return and control of the Coventry Building Society Arena to accelerate a 10-year venue strategy designed to expand premium, events and non-matchday revenues.

brief

Coventry City have agreed a 10-year partnership with Legends Global covering commercial, hospitality and operational activity at the Coventry Building Society Arena, backed by more than £15m of joint investment as the newly promoted club seek to increase the venue’s year-round earning potential. The programme will run across hospitality, food and beverage, technology, premium spaces and wider venue infrastructure, with around £2.5m already committed to immediate improvements. Investment will be phased over the first three years.Coventry City owner and executive chairman Doug King said: “Our return to the Premier League is a defining moment, but our ambition extends far beyond what happens on the pitch. Together with Legends Global, we are making a significant investment in the future of this venue and transforming the experience for everyone who comes through its doors.“We want to attract the world’s best talent both on and off the pitch and establish Coventry as a leading destination for sport, music and hospitality, 365 days a year.”The agreement is significant because Coventry are combining Premier League promotion with direct control of their stadium, giving the club an opportunity to convert increased visibility and demand into a broader venue business.Coventry became landlords of the arena in August 2025, ending a prolonged period in which their relationship with their home had been defined by tenancy disputes and spells playing outside the city.Legends Global will work across matchday operations as well as conferences, exhibitions, concerts and other events, with the partners seeking to establish the arena as a stronger destination for entertainment and business throughout the year. The company’s Global Sales division has also secured a long-term agreement covering premium hospitality and VIP sales strategy. Its remit includes seasonal and matchday hospitality, inventory optimisation and VIP delivery.Seasonal hospitality memberships are already sold out ahead of Coventry’s first Premier League campaign in 25 years, placing greater emphasis on premium inventory and match-by-match products as the club enter the higher-value top-flight market.Food and beverage will form another major part of the investment, including redesigned concessions, self-service technology and new hospitality concepts.Simon Rogan’s Umbel Restaurant Group will establish a residency in the arena’s Engine Room hospitality lounge, bringing menus developed by the group behind restaurants including L’Enclume, Rogan & Co and Aulis.Legends Global president Europe Chris Bray said: “This is about bringing real transformation to both the club and the arena – more phenomenal live entertainment content, elevated food and drink, new premium spaces and innovative partnerships that are genuinely unique.”The strategic shift is particularly notable given Coventry’s stadium history. Ownership, Premier League status and a decade-long specialist operating partnership now give the club considerably greater scope to align football growth with the economics of the wider venue. The £15m programme will initially focus on improvements over the next three years, while the 10-year Legends Global agreement provides a longer runway to grow hospitality, events and other revenues beyond Coventry’s Premier League matchdays.
