Burnley turn to Vertu after abrupt Finotive shirt deal collapse
Burnley have terminated their shirt sponsorship agreement with Finotive weeks after announcing the deal and elevated long-standing partner Vertu to front-of-shirt principal partner for the 2026/27 season.
Burnley have terminated their sponsorship agreement with Finotive shortly before the start of the new season, replacing the trading company with automotive retailer Vertu as their front-of-shirt principal partner.Finotive One had been announced in July as Burnley’s new shirt and training wear sponsor, with its branding already incorporated into the club’s 2026/27 home and away kits.Burnley said: “Burnley Football Club is disappointed to confirm that its agreement with Finotive has been terminated.“We have acted decisively to protect the club’s interests, and those of our supporters, while ensuring preparations for the new season continue uninterrupted, both on and off the pitch.”Finotive branding had begun disappearing from club-related material before the termination was confirmed, including training imagery and broadcast graphics ahead of Burnley’s Championship opener against West Ham United. The club have now expanded their existing relationship with Vertu, which first partnered with Burnley during the 2022/23 season. The automotive retailer will take over the most prominent commercial asset on the club’s playing shirts.Chairman Alan Pace said: “We are delighted to welcome Vertu as Burnley Football Club’s new Official Front of Shirt Principal Partner.“Vertu has been a valued and trusted partner of the club, and this new relationship is a natural next step for two organisations that share a commitment to ambition, innovation and long-term success.“From our very first conversations, it was clear there was a shared vision for what this new partnership could achieve, and we look forward to working even more closely together and creating exciting new opportunities for our supporters throughout the season.”The switch creates an unusual operational challenge for Burnley because replica shirts carrying Finotive branding had already gone on sale.Supporters who bought a 2026/27 shirt with the former sponsor can receive a full refund, exchange it for a replacement carrying Vertu branding or have the new logo applied to their existing shirt without charge.Financial terms of the Vertu agreement were not disclosed. The rapid replacement gives Burnley continuity on a major commercial inventory position while limiting disruption to retail operations and the club’s wider preparations for the new campaign.
