Bundesliga splits US rights as Telemundo lands historic Spanish-language deal
The Bundesliga has sold its US Spanish-language rights independently for the first time, signing a three-year Telemundo agreement that combines extensive linear coverage with every match on Peacock.
The Bundesliga has agreed a three-year US media rights partnership with Telemundo, separating its Spanish-language package from English coverage as the German league targets greater reach among Hispanic audiences. From the 2026/27 season, Telemundo and Universo will show more than 100 matches per campaign, with every Bundesliga fixture available in Spanish on Peacock.Robin Austermann, Bundesliga Americas executive vice-president, said: “These partnerships with USA Sports and Telemundo mark the next phase of our strategy, combining outstanding distribution with significant commercial opportunity and bringing the Bundesliga closer to more fans across the United States than ever before.”The Telemundo agreement is the first time the Bundesliga has sold its US Spanish-language rights as a standalone package. The deal is expected to generate around US$10m per season, complementing a separate English-language agreement with Versant worth approximately US$20m annually.USA Sports will become the league’s exclusive English-language home, showing at least 30 matches per season on USA Network and making the remaining fixtures available free through Fandango.Together, the agreements will place the Bundesliga in more than 80m US homes across English and Spanish-language television and streaming platforms.Joaquin Duro, executive vice-president of sports and head of streaming at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, said: “This partnership strengthens our year-round soccer portfolio and reinforces our commitment to delivering the world’s biggest competitions in Spanish with the quality, storytelling and passion our audiences expect from Telemundo.”The Bundesliga fits alongside Telemundo’s Premier League coverage, with German matches generally scheduled before English top-flight fixtures during weekend mornings. That creates opportunities to move audiences between Telemundo, Universo and Peacock while building longer blocks of live football programming.Duro said: “The schedules work very well for us. We can move the audience between Telemundo, Universo and Peacock, as well as naturally connecting with the Premier League.”The Bundesliga said its US fan base has grown by 43% over the past five years, supported by its New York office and a broader commercial partnership with Relevent. The league’s regional strategy includes English and Spanish-language content, fan events, youth competitions and commercial development across North, Central and South America. The new agreements begin with the 2026/27 season and will run until 2029.
