Bodø/Glimt builds technology partnership business through EDGE
Bodø/Glimt are developing a unified data platform and technology partnership business designed to generate revenue through product development, revenue sharing and potential equity interests.
Bodø/Glimt are investing in a unified data infrastructure and a technology partnership platform to create commercial opportunities beyond conventional sponsorship, with companies able to develop and test products within the Norwegian club’s operations. The strategy combines a data lake being developed with consultancy BearingPoint and EDGE Case Ventures, which connects technology partners with the club’s staff, systems and operational challenges.Bodø/Glimt technology and innovation lead Alma Antonia Botten, who is also chief executive of EDGE Case Ventures AS, said: “Data and AI is the next frontier where we intend to apply it.”The data lake is intended to bring sporting and commercial information together, providing shared infrastructure for the club’s technology projects rather than leaving information distributed across separate systems.EDGE will give startups and established businesses opportunities to co-develop solutions across sporting operations, stadium management, commercial activity, supporter engagement, media and administration. The model positions Bodø/Glimt as a development and testing partner, with the club gaining access to technology and expertise while companies obtain practical feedback and a setting in which to demonstrate their products.Commercial arrangements can vary between partnerships, including revenue-sharing agreements, royalties, discounted technology access and equity participation, with direct ownership stakes in ventures possible in selected cases. Those options give the club routes to benefiting from a product’s wider commercial development, alongside the value of using the technology within its own business. One existing project involves startup Insitu.fit, which is working with Bodø/Glimt to bring medical and physical performance information into a single environment. The platform connects information from existing systems, including training data, wearable devices, sensors, laboratory tests, medical records and contextual notes, allowing staff to examine sources together rather than separately.Machine learning and an embedded large language model support natural-language interaction, enabling coaches, clinicians and performance personnel to build analyses and workflows around shared underlying information.EDGE also works with sports-focused investment firm APEX and its portfolio companies, providing another connection between the club’s operational environment and businesses developing sports technology.Bodø/Glimt’s planned new stadium, scheduled for completion at the end of 2027, has helped drive the decision to establish the data platform and offers a further setting for technology deployment.Developing the infrastructure alongside the venue creates opportunities to incorporate systems as stadium operations take shape, with the partnership platform covering venue management as well as football activities.Companies working through EDGE can also gain reference cases, co-branded content opportunities, executive speaking platforms and access to the club’s wider Nordic sports network. The initiative extends Bodø/Glimt’s approach to working with more limited resources than Europe’s largest clubs into their commercial operations, using product collaboration and data infrastructure to pursue new sources of value. The club’s ambition is to establish a sports technology reference point in Nordic and European markets, with EDGE linking practical operational needs to partnerships that can generate income and longer-term business interests.
