BMO deepens NSL bet with broadcast and talent rights
BMO has renewed its Northern Super League partnership on a multi-year basis with rights spanning broadcast presentation, player pathways and sports-media development around Canada’s professional women’s competition.
BMO has renewed its Northern Super League sponsorship under a multi-year agreement that keeps the bank attached to both the league and its broadcast product.BMO remains the NSL’s Official Bank and Presenting Sponsor of league broadcasts across all platforms, while the partnership is expanding into athlete development and professional pathways.BMO chief marketing and communications officer Catherine Roche said: “The Northern Super League is helping transform the landscape of women’s soccer in Canada.”The structure gives BMO exposure beyond conventional league branding.Broadcast-presenting rights connect the bank directly with the NSL’s media distribution and give it a recurring position around coverage as the competition builds audience and commercial scale. The partners will also expand programmes supporting player development and opportunities for girls and women in football.BMO Next Gen provides another component focused on the sports-business workforce. The programme selects an aspiring female sports-media student each year for mentoring and access to NSL Media Day and the league’s championship final. That makes the agreement relevant across three areas the NSL needs to develop simultaneously: audience, playing pathways and the professional infrastructure surrounding the competition.NSL president Christina Litz said BMO had helped the league build its business from its early stages. The renewal also gives the competition continuity with a major financial-services partner while it seeks to establish sustainable national commercial relationships around women’s professional football. Financial terms were not disclosed.BMO has a long history of investment in Canadian football, giving the NSL access to a sponsor already familiar with using the sport across consumer marketing, community programmes and major events. The broadcast component remains particularly important because media reach will determine the league’s ability to expand sponsorship value beyond its match-going audience. The multi-year renewal provides commercial continuity while linking BMO’s rights to parts of the NSL ecosystem that can be developed as the league matures.
