Amun exit puts NFF review under governance spotlight
Fanny Amun has resigned after submitting an NFF fact-finding report, citing the need to protect its independence and creating a governance test over how the federation handles the findings.
Former Nigeria Football Federation general secretary Fanny Amun has resigned as chairman of an NFF fact-finding committee immediately after submitting its report.The review was created following poor performances by Nigeria’s national teams, but its remit extended into administrative and organisational issues within the federation.Amun said: “I did not want anyone to influence the report before I submitted it to the NFF. That was why I submitted it and resigned.”His comments do not establish that anyone attempted to alter the findings, but they place unusual emphasis on the independence of a review commissioned by the federation itself.Amun said the report was completed ahead of its two-week deadline and has been sent not only to the NFF but also to FIFA, CAF, the National Sports Commission and other agencies.The NFF has not publicly released the report.Amun has also called for changes to federation electoral rules, including stronger screening of incumbent board members and limits on terms in office.The business relevance now rests on what happens to the recommendations rather than the sporting failures that triggered the review.Any governance reform, executive action or financial and administrative changes resulting from the report would represent a more substantive next development.
